Hamish worked as a Physiotherapist after completing two degrees at Otago University. Yet, around 18 years ago, he was drawn to exploring his artistic potential and developing his art practice. Initially focusing on sculpture and then concentrating on drawing and painting.
He is interested in the portrayal of subject matter , whether human form, landscape or object, in a contemporary manner with a clean, precise style. Putting emphasis on form and structure he creates a dramatic representation of the world.
Hamish takes time to render a seamless drift of tone with a conscious pushing and pulling of perspective provoking intrigue and wry charm.
With a keen awareness of historical influences he interprets the place he inhabits and attempts to reflect the emotion and narrative that underlies and contributes to community, the human condition and place.
Hamish works and lives in Christchurch with his partner, son and daughter.
