John Parker

Born in Auckland, New Zealand 7 July 1947. Began working in clay in 1966. Gained an M A degree in Ceramics from the Royal College of Art in London in 1975. Member of The International Academy of Ceramics (Geneva) since Has exhibited extensively in many solo shows in New Zealand and internationally. Won three Merit Awards in the Fletcher Challenge Awards.  His ceramics are represented widely in private collections and at Auckland Institute and Museum, NZ; Dowse Art Museum, NZ; Waikato Art Museum, NZ; Manawatu Art Gallery, NZ; Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NZ; Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences, Sydney; Northern Arizona University, United States; Pennsylvania State University, United States, NZ Embassy, Jakarta. NZ Embassy, Beijing, China He is equally known as an award winning Theatre Designer. His life is project based dividing his time equally between theatre work and making his own ceramics. Was made Life Member of Auckland Studio Potters in 1999 and later that year was awarded a Waitakere City MILLENIUM MEDAL for services to the Community. Awarded a New Zealand Arts Foundation Laureate in 2010. Received a Senior Honours Award for Services and Support of Pasifika Artists, Faailoga Faaeaina a le Pipa, PIPA (Pacific Institute of Performing Arts) in 2015.
